In Kampot, the salt fields that shimmer under the sun are tended to by farmers who have been using the same traditional methods to produce salt that have been passed down through generations.
Kampot province is famous for being Cambodia’s salt producing region, supplying salt for both domestic consumption and for export to international markets.
Pak Pov, a member of the Salt Association Production located in Traeuy Kaoh Commune in Kampot province, has been a salt producer for more than 15 years.
The reason she decided to continue working in the field is because she believes salt is a part of Cambodian production. Moreover, it is also a significant product to supply daily needs domestically, Pov added.
